1 in 20 is a cafe / coffee shop in The Basin providing a friendly and welcoming environment with the best coffee, great food, drinks (yes we have our alcohol licence also!) and atmosphere to match.
What does our name even mean?! 1 in 20 refers to the gradient of Mountain Hwy up to Sassafras, often 1 in 20 is best known by cyclists due to this section of road named in cycling apps such as Strava. What many don’t know, is that Mountain Hwy from Bayswater to Sassafras in 1937 was actually called One In Twenty Road for a brief period of time.
At 1 in 20 cafe we pride ourselves on having such a great team to come to work with everyday. We have 4 fully qualified chefs and also a pastry chef (who’s also an awesome barista) to make as much as possible in-house. Our baristas all have direct training from The Bean Cartel so that we have our coffee taste how it was designed to taste.

The Bean Cartel
Our everyday bean is the ‘El Capitán’
PNG, Brazil, Peru, Honduras.
A great all rounder that is easy to work with. El Capitán is an exceptional milk based coffee with a slightly strong flavour and a lingering spicy aftertaste. One of our most popular and classic blends.
100% we will return again.
Or just order anything from the menu and it wont disappoint you.
Coffee and a BLT.
Both of which were awesome.
They have a huge range to choose from, and prices were reasonable.
Great atmosphere, and the service was spot on. Also friendly and very polite staff.
My mate commented, "Have you been here before?" I said no, it just looked like a better option to the usual cafe / bakery food.
We have now discovered a new place to frequent whenever in the area.
